The small head it isn't easy to identify at first with horns like in an antelope fashion plus big eyes. But in fact this is a wasp with antennas!
This animal had a bad repu- tation among people due to its irritating sting which could be dangerous to small children.
Combined with the fearful and disorderly hippopotamus this goddess had a character lean- ing towards evilness. Some bugs were not popular as ob- ject in art with two exception - the honey giving bee and the always present house fly.
Ahti's provenance is not known and she had understandably no place in amulets and such and was seldom depicted. The illu- stration left is a reconstruction without any model.
Main text.
The goddess Ahti is possibly the most weird and maladjusted of all Egyptian deities as to the combination of animals by which she was built.
Little of her is know except from depictions and her personality was said to be spiteful.
Hippos had always represented disorder and strength and was feard by people, and her body was made from this heavy creature.
