Underground galleries from the tomb of king Hotepsekhemwy in Sakkara. A stair from the north side (right in picture) leads down to the corridor where four blocks of hard stone were dropped from above as stoppers, to prevent intrusion from robbers. The burial chamber (red) was his bedroom, plus a bathroom (blue) and a lavatory (green). All the other chambers were storage rooms for grave goods. The fine symmerty in this drawing (from c. 1902) might not exactly resemble the plan.
