Step Pyramid Interior
During construction many alternation were made to the pyramid.
1) A mastaba of granite altered twice.
2) A 4-step pyramid.
3) The final 6-step pyramid (124x109x62 m) coated with limestone (today removed).
The grave chamber (red) was made separately of granite und placed at the bottom of the shaft from the original mastaba. It only contained an empty stone coffin and a golden sandal with a foot still in it(!) (later lost at sea) probably the king's remains. A gigantic stone plug in the roof locked the whole chamber. Lots of corridors and store room were cut out in the bedrock on different levels and eleven shafts with corridors were made at the eastern side of the mastaba containing housenda of stone vessels.
To the north (down on map) a mortuary temple was built and this part of the pyramid complex has not been investigated fully jet (year 2021).
