Hudjefa The mark for
unknown kings

The cartouche with the name Hudjefa (above) is taken from the Royal Canon of Turin but it's not a king's name at all.
It appears twice in this list and is simply the writer's entry for "erased" since the original list he was copying from obviously was damage at this place and no readable name was to be found. In the none-official Sakkara list (from a private tomb) a similar entry was made once (picture left) with slightly diff- erent phonetic hieroglyphs, but at the same place as in the Turin Canon. During the infancy of Egyptology in the late 1800s scholars thought it to be a name of a king, but this mis- understanding was corrected in the first dacades of the 1900s.
