The unfinished southern pyramid at Mazghuna
The south unfinished pyramid at Mazghuna 15 km south of Sakkara, possibly the tomb of Amenemhet IV
This monument had a very sophisticated and advanced interior and two big sliding blocks (in green) to seal the corridor to the grave cham-ber (red). Only two courses of mud brick for the core were laid and the chapels were made in the same material.
The technical level points to a date of construction after the reign of Amenemhet III and it might be the last rest-ing place of his son and heir Amenemhet IV.
The pyramid was enclosed by a wavy wall and no traces from a causeway or valley temple have been found, if they ever were built.
