Mentu-Re
Mentu was an god of war and sun from Armant in Upp- er Egypt known from around 3.000 BC. and was attached to the cult of Horus. He wore plumes on his head and car- ried bows/arrows, spear, sabers and knives and could have the head of a falcon or a bull. Combined with the solar god he was Mentu-Re with the sun disk (at right). His companion was the local bull Buchis and his wife was Menhit. He became known nation wide from dynasty 11 when kings from Thebes by the name Mentuhotep called upon him in their military struggle to reunite Egypt. He then was given a new wife - Mut.
During the New Kingdom his cult with tem- ples remained in his home town.    Main text.
