In the New Kingdom she stood guard at the king's bier and in some provinces Sobek was her son where she was shown nurs- ing a crocodile. Her cult never got further south than Faiyum, and in her home town she was said to be the sole creator of all other gods. She was patroness of virginity and virgins and also cared for weaving. She wore the red crown of Lower Egypt and her weapons were the bow and the arrows. A shield with two crossed arrows was her sign and was seen sty- lized upon her head (top right). During the New Kingdom she became the mother of Re and in Memphis she protected the royal crown. |
