Towards latter 1943, a further light tank was built, beeing almost identical to the T-70M, but carried a heavier turret and thicker armour up to 50 mm. This tank was to be known as the T-80. A commanders cupola was added, and an internal mantlet was employed to improve fighting efficiency. The T-80 was only used as a recon tank, and was never to be used on any larger scale. 75 tanks were manufactured in all. Why the model got the numbr 80 is unknown and it should not be confused with its namesake which came into duty some fourty years later.     T-80 drawing
